Lake Wylie, the South Fork and a historic downtown
Belmont occupies a peninsula in eastern Gaston County between the Catawba River, which widens into Lake Wylie here, and the South Fork of the Catawba. It's a former textile town with a lively historic Main Street, Belmont Abbey College and the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. Housing ranges from mill houses and older homes close to downtown, to established neighborhoods and newer subdivisions, to waterfront and water-access homes along Lake Wylie and the South Fork.
Photographing lake homes
Waterfront and water-access listings live or die on the first few images. Buyers want the view from the deck, the dock, the slope of the yard to the water and the shoreline. Every package includes drone photos, which can show all of that. Belmont sits just across the river from Charlotte Douglas International Airport, though, so many addresses are in controlled airspace, and drone flights are subject to airspace authorization and may be limited. Inside, lake-facing rooms get HDR treatment so the water shows through the windows instead of turning into white glare.
In-town homes near Main Street
Mill houses and cottages near downtown are popular for their walkability and character, and many have been renovated. For these, the focus is the porch and street appeal, original details like hardwoods and trim, and the updated kitchen and baths that make them easy to live in. A floor plan helps when a small house has been expanded, and newer family homes in the surrounding subdivisions get a straightforward, bright gallery with the backyard and neighborhood amenities.
